Fissure Sealants

Fissure sealants

A Fissure Sealant is a coating that seals the grooves or fissures on the biting surfaces of the back teeth.

This prevents food and germs from lodging in the fissure which can lead to tooth decay.

Our practice policy is to routinely seal the first and second molar adult teeth as soon as they are accessible to this procedure.  We use high quality plastic composite to achieve the best results.

There is good scientific evidence to show that this will significantly reduce the chances of these teeth requiring fillings later in life.

It is a painless, non-invasive procedure. The fissure is cleaned thoroughly, the sealant is painted onto the tooth and then is quickly set with an ultra-violet light. You will be able to eat immediately afterwards.
